CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS ASSOCIATION (CARES)

The CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS ASSOCIATION (CARES) is a non profit organization. The objective of the society is to reduce cervical cancer in Malaysia. It is the mission of CARES to provide direction and education and importantly to create cervical cancer awareness and promote cervical cancer screening and prevention in Malaysia.Founded in July 2008, CARES will provide:

• Continuing education programmes
• Newsletters
• Website
• Local / Regional networking amongst professionals and the public
• Speaking opportunities
• Information on cervical cancer and health related events
• Voluntary public service opportunities

In addition, CARES serves to link the public to reputable information sources and provides the public and mass media with contacts for spokesperson on specialized cervical cancer and health related topics. CARES also works closely with other professional bodies and the government, to support health promotion and education campaigns and seminars for the public.CARES also serves to be a platform for those infected to share their experience with other infected women and women at largeThe membership of CARES is open to all Malaysian Citizens irrespective of race or sex who subscribe to the objectives of CARES.All categories of members other than the Patron and Honorary members shall pay a prescribed subscription.

A. The types of membership shall be as follows :

• Life Member
• Any individual aged eighteen (18) AND ABOVE MAY APPLY TO The Executive Council through the Honorary Secretary for Life Membership of the Society and upon acceptance by the Executive Council shall pay the appropriate fee as stipulated under the Rules and Regulations of the Constitution. They shall be entitled to all privileges of Ordinary Membership without having to pay annual subscription.
• Ordinary Member
• Any person aged eighteen (18) years and above who applies and is accepted as an Ordinary Member shall pay an annual subscription as stipulated in the Constitution.
• Corporate Member – Health Organizations, Registered Social Organizations and any Registered Company, may at the discretion of the Executive Council be admitted to Corporate Membership of the Society on payment of the prescribed annual fee. Corporate Member only has one vote by its representative.
• Honorary Member -Any distinguished individual, who has either directly or indirectly contributed to the above-mentioned objectives, may be elected as Honorary Member subject to the approval of the Executive Council.
• Associate Member – Any individual aged between eighteen (18) and above is not a Malaysian citizen but wishes to subscribe to the objectives of the Society shall be considered for this membership and shall pay an annual subscription as stipulated in the Constitution. An Associate Member shall be entitled to all benefits and privileges of Ordinary Member, except that he/she will not be entitled to hold office, to vote or have any say in the management of the Society.

B. Admission to Membership

Every applicant shall apply on a prescribed form duly proposed and seconded by an Ordinary of Life member of the Society.All applications received for membership shall be placed before Executive Council by the Honorary Secretary for approval and the Council shall have the power to accept or reject any application for membership without assigning any reason whatsoever. The applicant shall be informed of the decision in writing.

C. Membership Privileges

• Access to forums and educational session on health and wellness related issues.
• Attendance to CARES-related conferences at reduced registration fees.
• Complimentary membership card to all members.

Ambassador of CARESDATO’ Dr SHEIKH MUZAPHAR SHUKOR AL-MASRIE

Being Malaysia’s First Angkasawan, there is no one better to represent Cervical Cancer Awareness Association (CARES) than Dato’ Dr Sheikh Muzaphar himself. His perspective towards cancer and the issues of the community and the world had changed after he had done cancer research through the Angkasawan Programme. That explains his interest in supporting CARES by becoming the Ambassador of the association.
